According to Howe & Hurd (2004), this instrument was completed on 19 December 1904 and first sold to a customer in Germany. It was then resold in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1943. As of 2004, it was reported to be located in Scotland, privately owned and used in the Scottish National Orchestra and other orchestras.
Howe & Hurd (2004) describe heckelphone #1 to be a model 36, with tiger-striped wood and silver keys.
